In September 2005, two crew members, Steve & Paul, undertook the brave task of sailing the length of The Caledonian Canal in the Highlands of Scotland from one end to the other, and back again. This included Loch Ness, Loch Dochfour, Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. At 62 miles long and nearly 2 miles wide, the lochs act a tunnel and the wind powers down it in one direction only. This means that we sailed from one end to the other in about a day - but it took the rest of the week to sail back again! Of course a BBT wouldn't be a BBT without something going wrong! On probably the windiest day and high swells battering us from ahead, the foresail broke free and began flapping around. much like yer missus does when you're late for dinner! The light was failing us too so we needed to get this problem fixed. After 20mins of fighting with the sail we finally managed to pull it down and lash it to the deck. But darkness had fallen and the only light we could see was about 3 miles ahead. We had no idea what it was but decided we had no option but to aim for it. As luck would have it, it turned out that the only light visible on the banks of Loch Ness, the light that we were aiming for, was a pub. Another classic BBT!
